We won the competition and were subsequently commissioned to design the town square and three new mixed-use buildings at the heart of a new village in Bohemia 40 miles from Prague.
Set in a beautiful natural ravine landscape, the buildings comprise commercial units and public amenities at ground floor, parking in the basement and with flats above. The client – a developer – recognizes the added marketability of great contemporary architecture. It intends to sell all 220 flats but operate the other facilities itself.
The cleverly massed buildings maximize the site’s development potential. Arranged geometrically, they create a flow from the newly formed north-facing market square to the landscaped green and lake to the south. All flats are generous in size and enjoy large south-facing terraces with views over the lake. Local stone and copper were used to reflect the sandstone and red roofs of the local vernacular buildings.
